Meet Evan and his new tattoo!

Meet Evan! Evan is the latest person to join the Skin Deep documentary and unlike Aaron and Lisa, Evan’s tattoo is based on his continued strength throughout his life as he defies all odds living with cystic fibrosis. When Evan was young his family were told he might only make it to the age of 10. When Evan reached 10 the doctors suggested he might make it to 18. When he celebrated his 18th birthday, in Evans words “they stopped guessing” about what age he may live to. Evan is now a 31 year old man that has a very successful career as a sports therapist and now has his very own clinic where he works with some high profile athletes from Ireland and further afield.

Earlier this morning I went to meet with Evan while he was getting a new tattoo that was designed with cystic fibrosis in mind. Dublin Ink were kind enough to allow me in to film the work in progress and it was a real treat. Although this whole documentary is based around tattoos and the stories behind them, I hadn’t been lucky enough to capture an actual tattoo being done, that is until today!

For the filming of the tattooing I used an 85mm lens as well as the kit lens that comes with the canon EOS 1300D. This was my first time to use the 85mm lens so it took some time to get used to how tricky it can be to ensure the object is in focus but I managed it after a few moments when I adjusted the aperture etc. Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to use the tripod as the studio is quiet compact and it was a very busy morning for Dublin Ink so a tripod would have been in the way. Hopefully I can fix most of the wobbles in post production.
